Rikka is a shut-in who lives in a Share House in Tokyo with her roommate Sena. Rikka doesn’t want Sena to know that she is secretly in love with her. Sena doesn’t make this easy by spending so much time with her. Rikka vows to devote all her time to drawing manga, to forget how much she craves to fuck the brains out of Sena.
STORY
Rikka tries to keep her crush under wraps. She distracts herself by drawing commission art for customers. One night Sena comes home in tears after her boyfriend broke up with her.
Turns out the scumbag was only dating her to make his ex jealous. Distraught, Rikka agrees to spend more time with Sena, cooking her meals, sleeping in the same bed and taking baths at the same time. Eventually all the yuri feelings bubble to the surface and Rikka confesses Sena she is in love with her.
The story’s main drive is the question of whether a yuri relationship between Rikka and Sena can work. Sena’s father opposes the two dating and goes to extreme lengths to keep them apart. Rikka’s obsession with her work also gets in the couple’s way. In another route, Sena’s new boyfriend creates a divide between the two which keeps them from confessing to each other.
The game plays like a typical “slice of life” anime. The interactions between the two lead characters are the driving force of this little drama. Rikka and Sena fit common stereotypes, which is remedied by good chemistry. Their dialogue is very entertaining. Other characters like Wakana and Sena’s father barely do anything. You can occasional feel the padding in scenes that do not contribute to the overall story.
GAMEPLAY
Apprehend; Girlfriend is a visual novel. You turn the page to advance the story. The game has basic VN functionalities. There are several different endings for you to unlock. Throughout the game you will have to make decisions that affect how your relationship with Sena grows. You can be a sensitive, considerate friend and listen to her problems, or you can shut yourself away in your room and become a workaholic. Only one of these routes leads to your tongue sinking between the sweet folds of her pussy.
The game has an ‘auto’ and ‘skip’ function. After you clear the game, the CG Gallery and Sound Room become available. You can listen to the OST or view all the CGs unlocked so far. The game can be completed in less than five hours if you’re a regular reader.
SOUND EFFECTS AND VOICE ACTING (SFX)
The game has no voice acting and only limited sound effects. Some noises you’ll hear include doorbells ringing and beer glasses toasting.
MUSIC
The music in Apprehend; Girlfriend is beautiful. Each song has a distinctive feel that makes listening to it more enjoyable. The game uses original instruments that give off an exotic paradise island feel. Traditional drums and wind instruments will put you in a relaxing mood.
The game also features a good variety of different tracks. Most songs have an upbeat and lively rhythm to them. Intimate scenes use beautiful slow piano coupled with exquisite violin melodies.
GRAPHICS
The artwork is pretty to look at. The colors are vibrant and make the art pop, especially Sena’s character sprite. The style has an attractive sleekness to it.
Sena’s design is cute with huge boobs that are strained underneath a tight sweater. Sprites in the game have no other poses. They have enough facial expressions to go around. Other characters like Wakana are cute enough. Sena’s father has the worst design. He looks generic and boring. Rikka doesn’t have a sprite. Her appearance reminds me of Hatsune Miku.
Background art is stylish with nice colors that give it a 3D feel. Artwork is limited with most of the story taking place in the living room or bedrooms. Apprehend; Girlfriend tricks you into believing the game world is bigger than it is by using different times of day for some artwork. The game also takes a few shortcuts by reusing certain CGs during scenes.
HENTAI
Sex is treated as a reward. After building up your relationship, you get a cute scene where Rikka fingers Sena’s innocent pussy much to her embarrassment and eventual enjoyment. After that, Rikka gets her pussy eaten out by a very thirsty Sena who takes great pride in doing lewd things with her roommate. The final sex scene is pretty hot and creates some drama tension.
The action in the game is short, but sweet. It feels genuine and earned, and warm. I wish there was more evolution and expressions. The characters give commentary throughout the sex scenes but most of it involves the player reading them moaning and groaning as they pleasure each other. This game could’ve seriously needed some voice acting, as reading sound effects is hardly an erotic experience.
CONCLUDING WORDS
Apprehend; Girlfriend is a wholesome vanilla adult game with great graphics, stellar music and two very cute girls. The story has its up-and-down moments, and the characters really have to work to earn their happy ending. While the game lacks audio and the production values are very, very average, the asking price is well worth the sloppy goodies inside!
