STORY
Himehagi Aisaku is a normal high school student until he is attacked by a strange shadowy creature. He is saved by Keziah, a classmate of his. She informs him that she is part of an elite team of heroes charged with protecting humanity from monsters. During the battle Keziah was forced to steal Aisaku’s shadow which the heroes use to battle the monsters. She asks him to have sex with her as an apology. Trample on Schatten is a very long and complex game. There are loads of characters. Most of them work for the organization and are masquerading as ordinary citizens. Konno Yuki and Onda Serika are both in high school with Aisaku. Rikuni Takuto is a priest who works for the organization. Saouji Meguru looks like a girl but is actually a boy. He is good friends with Yasaka Fuuri who is very innocent and pure.
The writing for this game is amazing. The story is well-realized and entertaining. Most of the female cast members are well explored with flash backs and origin stories. Characters have genuine personalities that make you feel sympathy when something happens to them. The game is riddled with anime clichés and stereotypes, but downplays them for the most part.
The game is padded with tons of useless scenes that turn a 30-hour game into a 50-hour game. Sex scenes are spread far apart.
VOICE ACTING AND SOUND EFFECTS (SFX)
The vocal work is fantastic. All the characters are voiced. The actors and actresses give well-rounded performances. They show their incredible range by swiftly transitioning from dirty, slutty moans to heartfelt character moments. The line delivery is on point and all the actors sound like they’re enjoying the script. The vocals during sex scenes are very lewd and sexy. The actresses make you believe that they’re really being fucked by a tentacle creature in the booth.
The sound effects in this game are primarily action. The sound library feels copy and pasted with generic crashes, whooshes, thuds, slams and explosions blasting into your ears. There are a lot of magical noises. The sex sounds are bare except for the voice actresses who use their vocal cords to let you know just how much pleasure they’re feeling.
MUSIC
Trample on Schatten!! has excellent music. The soundtrack is brimming with a large variety of different songs that take inspiration from multiple genres. The music sounds like something from classic shonen anime and slice of life anime. Fast-paced action tracks used in combat and slow, intimate songs play during romantic or dramatic scenes.
The soundtrack fits the events taking place on screen and augments action sequences especially. The quality is passable. I rarely noticed song changeovers. Trample on Schatten!! uses a combination of original and synthetic instruments. The guitar and piano are most frequently heard but cymbals and xylophones are also prominent.
GAMEPLAY
Trample on Schatten!! is a visual novel game. You click on the screen to “turn the pages”. The game has complex visual novel functionality. The main feature is a map which lets you play key events from earlier in the timeline from the perspective of other characters. This feature makes the game follow a strange non-linear storytelling format. Because of this aspect, main gameplay will come to a halt in order to explore another character in another time. Some key events become locked for long periods of time until certain other scenes have been played.
The game will also present you with choices. These decisions impact on the rest of the game varies in importance. Less impactful choices include whether to cum inside or outside. You can remove all clothing or just some of them. This story can branch out into different routes depending on your choices.
There are enough save slots available to save your progress. You can use ‘auto’ and ‘skip’ functions.
GRAPHICS
Trample on Schatten!! has excellent graphics. The visuals are sharp and vibrant. The game has a sizable library of artwork. Artwork during the game constantly evolves, such as in battles, where there’s lots of screen swipes and slashes. The art shifts in-between shots which make it feel like you’re watching an animation. You can tell the game’s budget was sizable by the sheer volume of backdrops, sprites, CGs and individual smaller pieces of art.
Background art is stylish with rich detail. Locations look absolutely beautiful, with light and shadows showing the passage of time. Certain settings have morning, afternoon and night versions.
The game features sprites for almost every member of the cast. Characters have multiple attires that they wear. The character artwork uses very thin edge lines and bright colours to make sprites pop. None of the characters have particularly sexy designs. Nobody has an oversized rack or sexy clothes.
The camera work is passable. CGs barely show a scene’s progression outside of shifting facial expressions. The sex positions in which the female cast have sex too vanilla for my refined perverted tastes.
HENTAI
The only real problem with the sexual content in this game is how long it takes before the first dick meets pussy. The game focuses heavily on plot with sex being treated as a reward for reading through mountains of dialogue. Once you finally start fucking, the sex feels short-lived because of how long it takes to unlock it.
The writing during hentai scenes is good. Sex in this game is either forced, or romantic. Romantic encounters between you and the female cast is always set up as an intimate affair. Usually it’s monsters plowing the female cast. The bitches get dominated hard, and it’s lewd as fuck how the girls begg not to be violated while their orifices are getting filled to the brim.
You mostly fuck the girls in the pussy, make them come and move on to the next scene. Forced sex always features tentacles with very little variation. Monsters fuck the girls in the ass or pussy, never in the mouth.
Sex scenes in this game feel devoid of any sexual creativity. There is no scene that stands out. For a game that combines hentai with Kamen Rider and non-linear storytelling, the sex should be much steamier than basic in-and-out.
