STORY
The entire game takes place in a single night. When morning, it’s game over, man. Will you let the batgirl in, and how will you treat her? And by the morning, how will she treat you? Tonight is the sauciest night of your wanker life.
Her name is Dreamscape. She’s been traveling for a while and doesn’t have a friend in the world. “Born with two bat wings, the world just isn’t ready for someone like me”, she says with a hint of sadness. Give her a tight hug and lift her spirits, exploit the emotional vulnerability later when you want to tap that pussy.
There are over 30 possible endings depending on up to 50 possible choices. In a single playthrough, you’ll only be making a handful of choices, because each decision has major consequences and branches off from the other. For example, will you demand something from Dreamscape in exchange for room and board? If you do, your playthrough will be lengthened with many more choices.
If you make zero romantic moves, she’ll leave you in the friendzone and say you’re “a couple of besties”. If you’re more romantic, she’ll ask you to be her boyfriend. And if you’re autistic, you can blurt out “be my girlfriend!” and see her reaction. I loved saving game and loading just to try out the possibilities and see her reactions.
The game has content for 1-2 hours of playtime. The dialogue is quirky and full of personality. Although the premise is a bit wild, the protagonist assumes it’s just a dream, which is why you’re able to be flirty or rude on a whim. Honestly, this game could easily be a Netflix romantic comedy. I really loved the writing.
GAMEPLAY
A Night with a Ba tGirl is a visual novel game created in the Renpy engine. If you completely ignore Dreamscape and don’t talk to her, you’ll unlock nude mode. This makes her nude for the entire game.
The developer links a walkthrough once you find your first ending. There are over 30 possible endings, so feel free to use the walkthrough if you want to complete the gallery. Otherwise, just enjoy experimenting with the endless possibilities.
Although the branching choices can seem a bit overwhelming, this game was a refreshing change from the usual hentai games I tend to play. No corruption points, no RPG level-ups, no simulation mechanics. It’s just you and Dreamscape.
GRAPHICS
There are 17 scenes in the gallery, but over 55 CGs in total. That’s because many of the artworks are for character expressions and dialogue, while many others like the kiss do not count as full scenes. Considering it’s a short game, the amount of unique artworks in this game is absurd.
55 CGs in a short game means that the visuals have tons of variety! Something as simple as asking her a question can change the artwork entirely to show her state of mind. Dreamscape feels like a real and living person.
This game does not have character stills. All artworks are full-screen CGs shown from a POV perspective as you speak to Dreamscape. Naturally, all CGs come with variations for clothing, facial expressions, and other details.
The downside is that most of the artworks portray Dreamscape smiling and happy even when dialogue indicates she is not. Like if you ignore her and she gets depressed, the CG shows her smiling and happy! That was a huge break to the immersion. Although most artworks fit well, there are a handful that were big bumps in the road.
Another issue is the overall lack of backgrounds. While the game does take place in your room at night, that doesn’t mean you exist in a black void of nothingness! Personally, I enjoyed the black backgrounds for making Dreamscape the sole focus of the game, but I wouldn’t be surprised if some felt otherwise.
VOICE ACTING AND SOUND EFFECTS (SFX)
A Night with a Bat Girl has no voice acting.
The sound effects in this game are limited due to the setting, an empty house in the middle of the night. Besides a “knock knock” on the window or the sound of crickets outdoors, the developer let the music take the lead in setting the tone of the scenes.
MUSIC
There are 9 tracks in total. Each is enjoyable and expressive, while remaining perfect for the moment. Like the bouncy and happy vibes in the track “Silly Bat”. Or the single and haunting piano keys, holding long notes during your unfortunate “Goodbye”. My favorite was probably the track entitled “Passion”, since it had an R&B style beat with bass guitar and a subtle drumline. This developer should be a musician! Their tracks are far better than anything on the radio today!
HENTAI
A Night with a Bat Girl features 17 scenes, illustrated via 55 CG images. There are no crazy fetishes, this is a relaxed and romantic experience.
Missionary, cowgirl, and doggystyle are the primary positions, all shown from a POV perspective. All sex scenes are seductive and consensual, usually with Dreamscape taking the lead. In fact if you’re nice to her, she’ll wake you up with sex, even if you never flirted! This girl sees a free dick and just hops on top!
The erotic dialogue is a mixed bag. Sometimes it’s purely descriptive like “our lips were together for some time”. While other scenes go all out with the dirty talk. This writer has no chill and I love it!
