STORY
Unable to leave this VR game, stuck inside the form of a monster, you’ve been mistreated for far too long. You’ve finally decided to take revenge and kill every adventurer you find, and fuck the brains out of every pair of tits that crosses your path!
While other games like Heroic Princess Millia gave you a reason to hate people and be an anti-hero, this game does not. You are a pure villain, because you hate women. This game has a rather braindead simple origin story.
This game requires two playthroughs to complete. The first is what the fans have dubbed “incel mode”, where you launch your rampage and go insane. The second is “nice guy” mode, where the women fall in love with you because you’re a good guy in a world where the friend zone hasn’t been invented. If you hear the game has multiple endings, this is what people are referring to.
I would have liked to choose the good or evil playthrough from the start, rather than being shoved into the rage route first. I would have liked some development for the protagonist, but they’ve decided that the monster look is all that needs to be said. You look terrible and people fear you. Leave it to hentai games to even make a story about a psycho loner feel banal.
Unavoidable violence scenes, no side quests, only one city, the list goes on. Fans agree the pacing in this game is whack. They have made a bit of a silly progression route. You start off as a slime monster and evolve into a more stable big bad as you level up.
You can buy items, including items that give you level-ups. It feels really odd, considering the premise. You should feast on the remains of the fallen heroes, like a true monster, not walk into a shop and pay buy shit to get power!
In other funny news, the developers decided to veer off into WTF-territory by adding a crafting system. I mean, if you already have a game that is not challenging, why not waste some more time making it even less challenging?
Someone had the idea of making this an RPG, but even in the nice guy playthrough it is impossible to lose. At a certain point, it plays more like a visual novel. I don’t know if rage porn works if you are not under any threat.
The girls in this game are anonymous, instead being named after their class like “Warrior” or “Assassin”. In spite of some sites tagging the game as “romance”, the protagonist does not actually get hooked up with any girl by the end of the game. Also, Thanatos is the name of the final boss of the first route, which is the most predictable choice this developer could have made.
The writing of this game is pretty directionless as we’ve been clued in along the way. Lacking coherent theme and the protagonist is far from engaging. Requiring two playthroughs was a massive turnoff for me, and the lack of meaningful choices means the game has no replayability. Playing as a monster who hunts humans could have been interesting, but the flat protagonist drags down the experience. And no amount of well drawn CGs helps with that.

The game offers three difficulty modes, but it’s easy regardless. Finding every scene, beating every miniboss, and exploring everything will make this game last 4-6 hours. However, it feels significantly longer due to the limited activities available.
Foraging and crafting are carried over from previous titles by this developer, but that’s it. Beyond that, you can simply kill humans and bunnies to farm “Karma” and buy the item that levels you up for no good reason. If you don’t feel like totally cheesing it – just craft spears and potions to brute force your way through most fights for easy levels.
Fundamentally, this game lacks anything to break up the RPG grind. While other games have side quests, corruption levels, reputation systems and more, this does not. If you’ve played for an hour, you’ve seen what this game has to offer.
Each monster levels up separately, starting at level 1. While you start as a slime, you can quickly unlock the top monsters in under an hour of play. Since abilities do not carry over, you have no reason to mix and match your playstyle. Just use the beefier ones and breeze through.
The ability to pickpocket or kill adventurers is nice since it has a minigame about timing your button presses, but it gets old fast. And although there is a wanted level for killing people, it goes down when you sleep, so it never actually challenges the player.
GRAPHICS
The artist from the dev’s previous game returns for even more fully animated scenes. These visuals now feature some interactivity like timing your thrusts. Starting a sex scene requires a simple minigame where you find what most arouses a woman. Her sensitive spots are either her breasts, pussy, or ass. Once you find the right body part, just hold the button and you win.
There are six main waifus, each with their own appeal. The redheaded warrior has huge tits while the huntress is more petite. Any female outside the main six waifus can still be fucked, but you’ll get a zoomed-in ass shot with no face. The real sexy scenes feature the six main girls.
Unlike previous games which utilized faded backgrounds or none at all, this game features multiple scenes that emphasize atmosphere and environment. The cloudy sky, the comfy curtains, the hardwood floor, the list goes on. Visually, this game is a clear improvement over its predecessor.
Over 24 minutes of gameplay, the world shifts through the day and night cycle. During the night, you can enter town and break into houses. This gets old fast though, since the owner can randomly walk in and you’ll be teleported outside the house.
With 35 scenes in total, the sheer volume of animations is absurd. Do you rub your cock on her pussy, play with her tits, or something else entirely? Do you thrust fast and deep or slow and shallow? It must have taken ages to animate all of this and it shows. Visually, this game is unmatched in quality.
VOICE ACTING AND SOUND EFFECTS (SFX)
Thanatos features full voice acting for the six waifus. Although they lack names, each girl is set apart by their personality and performance. While the mage is shy and inexperienced, the assassin is lustful and seductive. While the server admin is prideful and muscular, the warrior is a bit pudgy and ditzy. The wide range of performances matches the characters masterfully, and these VAs deserve endless praise.
The sound design is also well done, with varied sound effects depending on your monster and the skills used. Playing as a giant jellyfish is audibly different than a small goblin. Even if gameplay gives no incentive to experiment, the sound design most certainly does. My only complaint is, I wish they had battle cries like pokรฉmon. I wish I could hear the difference between a goblin screech and an ogre roar.
MUSIC
The music choices in this game are downright random at times. The cave base has this weird techno-style of music that doesn’t match a cavern at all, not unless you throw in the corresponding rave DJ. Most sex scenes feature the standard electric guitar track, usually because the vibe is always identical. In that respect, the music is held back by the limited and repetitive scenarios of the writing. Thankfully the voice acting is always the primary focus, so the music can be tolerated.
HENTAI
Thanatos offers a unique problem in the hentai gaming genre. If you can choose your character, will you choose based on gameplay abilities or sexual performance? My slime was high level, so I was stuck with a lot of slime sex scenes. Eventually I decided to bite the bullet and level up my humanoid options for having an actual dick to work with. Consider what monster you want to level as it impacts the sex scenes you will see.
This game features avoidable NTR content. At the final boss of the second playthrough, if you lose, he will fuck whichever female was in your party. They aren’t your girlfriend, but seeing your traveling companion get fucked is pretty cuckish.
Sometimes the visuals are a disconnect with the writing. You could be playing a goblin, but you’ll still have a human cock. You could play a giant orc that’s 10 feet tall, but you’ll be similar in height during sex scenes. There isn’t even a change in skin color!
The voice acting really carries these 35 scenes. The animations are hot, and the vaginal sex sound effects are fitting, but it’s that sexy moaning that always pushes me over the edge. I would get hard a hundred times listening to those women in pleasure. I just wish they had names.
CONCLUDING WORDS
Thanatos had a strong premise with mixed execution. The visuals and voice acting are fantastic, but requiring two playthroughs is annoying and the weirdo protagonist is a turn-off. If I’m going to play as a total psycho, I would prefer to get a little bit of character evolution at least.
