Today, my twitter feed exploded with pictures of a very strange Princess Peach. While investigating this cute meme, I discovered some interesting things about it.
Here’s a quote from change.org, where some fapper is running a petition to make Nintendo canonize Bowsette.
Bowsette, as the internet has named her, is a character merge inspired by the idea of Bowser using the Super Crown to transform into a Peach version. She appears to have originated from the work of artist aykk92 on Twitter, who sketched an amusing comic strip imagining a spurned Mario and Bowser finding love using the Super Crown. The internet has fallen in love with this unlikely combination, and seemingly overnight, artists have created thousands upon thousands of fanart pieces dedicated to the turtle princess. As I write this, #Bowsette is trending on Twitter with over 150,000 mentions (and that’s not including the Japanese hashtag).
I went to Gelbooru to fetch sample pictures of this hilarious character, and to my shock, there’s already tens of pages of uploaded pictures featuring Bowsette in various sexual, and less sexual situations. There’s even a dark-skinned version of her, with red hair and yellow eyes, who seems like the less popular variation.

What’s astonishing about this meme is the speed at which it sprung to prominence. Within only two days time, artists around the world produced full-color fan art of this character, some with very detailed backgrounds and lighting effects. At the same time, unpaid contributors at image sharing sites like Gelbooru have been collecting, uploading, and tagging these pictures day and night – on friggin’ weekdays no less. The official Knowyourmeme page for Bowsette was posted just two days ago, as of time of writing. Meanwhile, news sites around the world are reporting on it, making everyone know about it.
The power of mankind made a useless meme a viral sensation that conquered the internet in a day. Once we learn to channel this same focus and energy into investigative journalism, humanity will be free of tyrannical governments and their corporate buddies overnight.
