STORY
The plot of this game is a classic story of good versus evil. Your sexy ninja girls gain power when they have sex with you. Keep them strong and their pussies filled up, and soon you will defeat the forces of evil!
The game starts with an hour-long prologue filled with info dumping. None of these details ever come up again, and learning of them felt like a waste of time.
The overall story is very basic. Sexy crescent moon ninja girls fight the bad guys of the evil Noroi faction. Often after defeating a member of the faction, you can view their flashbacks and see what led them to a life of evil.
While the writing presents interesting themes, they never really go anywhere. The bad guys promise peace through fear while the good guys oppose this regime. These themes are soon dropped and the focus shifts to the drama between the characters.
The pacing of the game is just plain bad toward the end. Once you unlock the third ninja, the game rushes to its conclusion. If you aren’t ready for endgame opponents, you’re pretty much screwed.
There are 16 endings in total. Besides the three bad endings, your ending is based on which ninja becomes your wife at the end of the game. That’s another problem, you abruptly have to pick one ninja to be your wife, even if you don’t want to. Your ending varies depending on which sex scenes you chose, leading to a brutal or loving conclusion.
A single playthrough should take ten hours, but the variety of endings and choices gives this game tons of replay value. Observant gamers may notice photos of Escalayer in this title, implying that this game chronologically comes after Beat Angel Escalayer.
CHARACTERS
Takamaru Ikusabe is the main character of the story. You are the “Dragonian”, with magic lust that makes ninja girls more powerful. You don’t even have to cum! As long as you’re in contact with them, they’ll grow in power.
Haruka Takamori is a Crescent Moon ninja from the 1500s who traveled through time to stop the Noroi faction. After her partner died protecting her, Haruka has lived with the burden of defeating her enemies. Committed and strong, she’s your classic loving waifu.
Narika Shihoudo is your tsundere childhood friend. Pink hair and a petite frame, she brings every scene to life with her spunky personality. She’s the head cheerleader at school, and the second ninja you acquire. In other words, best girl.
Subaru is the partner of Haruka who was believed to be dead. In reality she was raped and enslaved by the Noroi faction until she joined their side. Defeat her in battle, and this stoic MILF will be your third ninja girl. Subaru has the fewest scenes.
Note! Although the story is told through the eyes of Takamaru, the perspective often changes for the sake of foreshadowing. Often times you can see what the Noroi faction is up to, but the main focus always returns to Takamaru.
GAMEPLAY
Beat Blades Haruka is a visual novel RPG. Castle raids, ninja training, and city patrol are just some of the many actions you take throughout this experience. The title plays out more like a fusion between an RPG and a simulation style game.
The game cycle is pretty simple. Have sex to restore energy for your girls. When they’re ready, send them out to battle enemies and restore the peace. Keep your peace level high or you’ll get a game over.
Everything in this game is done by dice rolls. For example, convincing a girl to do public sex might require a dice roll of twelve! This consumes two dice, but they’ll come back after some rest.
A lot of stuff is not explained when you start the game. For example, you cannot romance Subaru until New Game Plus. You can only get 3 skills per character. For every ten libido points you’ll gain another dice, so you should spend early-game grinding libido. I remember when I tried to romance Subaru and it didn’t work, I felt betrayed. She has a love bar just like the other girls, but it was all a lie.
This game is from 2008, so it’s rough around the edges. Only one character can appear on screen at any time. The standing art always has one facial expression. The backlog never names who is speaking. The list goes on. The game is still enjoyable, but rough around the edges.
My number one piece of advice is to use multiple save slots. Whether it’s choosing the wrong skill, leveling up the wrong character, or progressing too quickly in the story, it’s very easy to get stuck on a boss fight and ruin your game save. The game encourages you to focus your time on one girl, which felt like a waste to me. Keep multiple saves, because this game is harder than it looks.
GRAPHICS
The game has a Japanese anime art style. With hundreds of fully colored images, the artist produced some of the greatest visuals in hentai today. Even male characters often get standing art and unique facial expressions.
Cut-in images are used frequently in the sex scenes. Whether it’s insertion or a sexy cumshot, the zoom-in is always incredibly erotic and lovely. If that’s not enough, the developers also released a 3-part OVA series. When it comes to hentai, this game is a modern classic.
Pixel animations on character sprites are used during castle raids and daily tallies. The full range of movement for these characters is super cute and made the castle raids a joy to view. From traps to treasure and enemy sprites, the pixel animations are gorgeous and made the game feel like an arcade experience.
There are 88 base scenes. 37 for Haruka, 29 for Nariko, 13 for Subaru, and nine miscellaneous scenes. All scenes have three stages that escalate the lewdness. For example, make Nariko give a handjob to a baseball player. In stage three, she’ll get double penetrated and fucked by the entire baseball team! When you count these scenarios as well, there are over 200 unique sex scenes to be found. This game has possibly the most unique scenes we’ve ever reviewed.
After the prologue an anime opening starts playing. It is absolutely gorgeous and provides the characters with tons of personality. Combine that with the large variety of locations and visuals in this game, and we have an amazing experience close to perfection.
VOICE ACTING AND SOUND EFFECTS (SFX)
Beat Blades Haruka has full voice acting for all characters. Even random civilians are fully voiced.
Haruka has a traditional woman’s voice that’s soft but full of heart. Narika is a tsundere, so she has the most expressive performance relying on loud shouting. Subaru is the mature older woman who speaks at a lower pitch and slower pace.
While main story events are always fully voiced, slice of life moments tend to rely purely on text. These are mostly the randomized choices you get to raise the level of love or brutality with your waifu. Recording dialogue for the hundreds of choices and outcomes would be impractical, so these moments are silent. Some lines are reused often, like when your female companion says “Oh? Takamura-sama?”. It gets very noticeable that this was a cost-cutting measure, but is never obvious enough to ruin the experience. I’ve always considered these things the small quirks to a game from 2008.
The sound effects are professional quality and do not rely on stock assets. Whether they’re licensed or original to the developer, the sounds are varied and realistic. A blade slice here and a bed creak there! Altogether the sound design is believable and immersive, making the game an enjoyable ride.
MUSIC
The soundtrack includes 30 unique songs. Considering the anime opening and multiple OVA films, it’s only natural the music in this game is movie quality.
The opening song is “Like Wind Like Flame”, and its lyrics are beautiful. “Our souls kept apart shall surely rejoin and shine as the snow melts”. I highly recommend listening to this song yourself.
“Thousand Mile Wind” is the track that plays through most of the game as you plan out your strategies. Its a digital synth track with bits of guitar and piano thrown in for a very relaxed feeling. I adore this track, just thinking of it reminds me of good times!
The variety of tracks here is downright incredible. While quirky scenes use a Sega Genesis style techno bass guitar, the heroic tracks rely on hard drums and an electric guitar to build up the hype for the battle soon to be fought and won!
HENTAI
The game has 88 base scenarios. Each scenario has 3 variations as it develops in intensity. For example “Serving the baseball team” is the setup, but it has three forms. The first is a simple blowjob while the last is a total gangbang. Altogether there are 150+ sex scenes. Counting scenarios, Haruka has 37 scenes. Narika has 29 scenes. Subaru has 13 scenes. And there are 9 miscellaneous scenes.
Sex is divided into three categories. Loving sex is very direct, with lots of kissing and eye contact. Brutal sex is basically whoring her out to homeless people and random strangers. When you are defeated, the sex involves tentacles and monsters.

Some of the scenes in this game are very hardcore. You can use magic to give the girl a futa dick. You can bring a cup full of random sperm and dump it directly into your girlfriend. Every sex position imaginable is explored. All hardcore and NTR scenes are completely avoidable. The brutal route of the game is very dark. Thankfully, you cannot stumble into the brutal route. You actively need to choose evil dialogue and scenes to enter it. And the love route has so many sexy scenes, you’re completely fine ignoring the hardcore content.
