Whenever I have sought employment in this hellscape industry in my decade of being here, I have witnessed horrors. Censorship, abuse of the workforce, criminality, narcissistic personality disorders, company CEOs in the grips of existential crises, nihilistic workers and their managers indulging in prostitutes and drugs. High worker turn-over, chaotic projects, raging and even suicide.
From these revelations, a clarity has come about.
Porn companies whose primary motivation is making money must eventually resort to force in creating a safe space for the mentally insane. I speak of porn-addicted men and women who worship mass murderers. Because when you wish to max out profits, you want crazy money too.
For a porn company to be a sensible workplace, it must adhere to a trifecta of virtues that allow everyone to be honest. The social order in the company must be rational, moral and transparent.
When maximizing profits, a company becomes irrational, immoral and full of lies. Authoritarianism follows the absence of virtue. Because being all-inclusive is a greedy ideal that kills diversity of opinion.
If you want power, that’s easy. Just accept that the true nature of the dark side is boredom.
Diversity, equality and inclusiveness are authoritarian ideas that open the gates to demons. Your company does not need these toxic values to have diversity, equality or inclusiveness. They’re naturally occurring phenomena in competitive organizations. Diversity happens when a company hires specialists.
It’s when diversity, equality and inclusiveness are elevated above competence, hierarchy and truthfulness that problems ensue. Because you’re hiring incompetent, impossible-to-reason-with crazies at that point.
When people are not allowed to discuss anything complex or deep, no new insights can be synthetized. No genuine social connections can form. Inspiration becomes a pandemic to vaccinate against.
So, why are rationality, morality and transparency the highest values? Because when applied into a company’s policies and structures, you create an order that feels natural and good for the people in it. High productivity, creativity and happiness begin to manifest when people feel good. And when your company is productive, you will eventually attract an audience that is fun to service.
People need sanity signals. A company can only be rational if it’s open to criticism. Criticism of the leadership must be encouraged, as much as criticism of the workers. Occasional jabs at the customers are also healthy. Nothing improves without honesty. Just accept that sometimes losing business is worth it. People eventually learn to have rational arguments when encouraged and rewarded for learning.
When bad ideas are culled on all levels of the organization via great argumentation, sanity wins.
It’s a little trickier for a porn company to be moral. Because pornographic entertainment is arguably corrupting of the individual and of society. But frankly, the same could be said of popular music and television. If your life is adversely affected by entertainment, do away with it. You cannot become physically addicted to entertainment, so you can quit cold turkey.
Now, I accept the argument that porn has a corrupting effect, as does the ability to think and fantasize. Hence the morality situation is best addressed from other angles. The basic formula for good morality is to be long-term oriented. The only question that matters is which actions make things stand the test of time.
Having transparency is the trickiest part. Because you depend on mainstream banking and payment services, submitting to laws that sometimes make it impossible to service some customers. This is where diplomatic verbal trickery is your survivalist skillset. There is currently no safe way to be fully transparent as a porn company. You have to keep some things a secret, or you die.
That said, encouraging dialog in your organization is a form of transparency. It begets trust. While an open dialog tends to lead to conflicts, the conflicts are softened by the genuine relationships everyone is forming. When you’re emotionally connected, the relationships are less likely to permanently break.
