Harem Heroes has a visual novel style storymode. The content is gated by a stamina system; each new scene drains your stamina points. The points regenerate over time, so with patience, you will see all the sexy scenes. Honestly, I found many of the stats and mechanics in the game, arbitrary. Just grind money in the harem pane, and buy the best equipment that’s being sold. Keep your girls leveled up, so their damage is always higher than your opponents’. Perhaps because I work all day on my laptop running my startup online business, I am grinding more cash than any of my opponents, so my bitches are decked out. The game has a cash shop, as expected of free to play business models. There’s many things to spend cash on, like gambling for new girls and epic items, accessing porn scenes faster, refreshing stocks in the store, etc. Upgrading girls also has a cost: 10k in-game money, or 150 kobans. None of this is mandatory, if you just sit and play the game. Don’t tell your mother what you bought on her credit card.

If you decide to buy shit in this game, consider that 500 Nutaku gold = 5€. With 20€, you get 460 kobans. That pays for 4 affection level upgrades on your girls (upgrade costs 150 kobans), or you can max your energy 11 times. Each energy top up is worth maybe ~20% of a scene. I recommend getting the affection upgrades, because the girls reduce clothing and fetch more money. More money is always lovely.

Things I didn’t like: The user interface seems sluggish. It takes about 2 seconds for your commands to go through. The buttons in the interface are also tediously small, making the game feel archaic, rather than sleek and modern. And the music, while chill and memorable in its way, is the definition of repetitive. Seriously, when I’m not playing, I keep hearing the beat inside of my skull.

There is no voice acting or sound effects. This single musical piece is the sole thing you hear the entirety of your playing experience. I’m almost suspecting it’s a subliminal trick based on the latest corporate research into human behavior.

Fact: the quality level for hentai games in the west is very, very low. This game is the best fap fodder on Nutaku, it features nothing but voiceless, brainless sex scenes drawn in a simplistic artstyle that’s fappable and distinct, but nothing special. The game is built around the free to play business model that includes a fatigue system which deliberately slows down your progress to gauge you for money.
