Quoted from the game’s sales page: “In HunieCam Studio players take control of a sleazy cam girl operation. Rake in stacks of filthy internet money and attract as many disgusting fans as you can in this fast paced, click happy and thoroughly perverted take on the business tycoon / management sim genre!”
HunieCam is a game about the monetary exploitation of sex workers, the depravity of human desire, the macro-economical effects of neo-liberal policies on disenfranchised women, and the eternal cocktease that is the HuniePop franchise.
Like the name implies, HunieCam Studio is about running a camgirl operation. Many characters from HuniePop are present. However, there is no continuity between the two games. Having “Hunie” in the title is mostly for brand recognition. The titillation in the game is very minimal, so anyone trying to complete HunieCam one-handed will surely be left unsatisfied. Unless you masturbate furiously to the idea of buildings rhythmically pulsating with your every touch, as the sound of cash surrounds you like rain, there’s little to fap to.
HunieCam Studio’s gameplay mostly consists of dragging the girls’ portraits from the right side of the screen into buildings, then watching the progression bar for their task fill up. It gets hectic when you have more than four girls to manage. You send the girls to do cam sessions, photo shoots, shopping for cigarettes and booze. You also equip your girls with different items from the “Adult Shop”, including butt plugs, cat ears, antibiotics, vibrators, water bottles, free cocaine, steroids, condoms and cake. There’s no visual feedback for any of this stuff, so beyond this screen shown below, you’ll have to use your imagination.
The goal in HunieCam is to hoard a massive following of fans in 21 days. To grow the maximum horde, you need to invest money in different upgrades that exponentially increase the amount of money, time and fans you can collect. Since money and fans are so interlocked, it creates an interesting dynamic where you try to maximize both optimally. Deciding what to upgrade, who you choose, and what items you equip to each girl adds a lot of experimentation and exploration. This makes HunieCam worth playing than once.
Of course, you can just force feed your girls chock-full of cocaine to double up their productivity, then mellow them out with weed. You can prostitute them until they get AIDS, then either fill them with steroids to squeeze the last monetary value out of their disease-ridden, depressed mortal husks, or replace them like the broken cogs in the machine we all really are. The choices in the game are kind of mundane when you think about it.
The cartoonish artstyle is simple but refined, with a clear blend of both Western and Japanese influence. The developers could have copy-pasted the graphics from Huniepop and called it a day, but instead they created a distinct and smooth style that stands on its own. The game’s music is a series of chill compositions that gives the game a relaxed atmosphere, although you probably won’t hum any of them on a silent moment. All of the voice actresses are lively and full of character, although their voices get repetitive quite quickly, since each girl has only about six different lines.
Mechanically and gameplay wise, HunieCam Studio is nothing unique. You can find similar games on fucking flash sites, but it’s also competent enough to be worth the purely coincidental price of 6,99 € or $6.99 on Steam. HunieCam doesn’t rely on cheap tricks to keep you invested, or a “free to play” model that nickels and dimes you at every turn. The gameplay is simple, but has enough depth to satisfy a wide range of players. This doesn’t include your mother, who would be disappointed if she knew how you were spending your fleeting, wasted existence.
After every playthrough, you get wardrobe tokens that you can use to unlock outfits and hairstyles for each girl. It takes about 10 hours, varying by your success, to unlock everything. The rest thereafter is just improving your high score. The items, and girls you can choose in every game are partially randomized. While this provides replay value, it also makes the high scores arbitrary. The gameplay is the main reason you buy this game. You will enjoy HunieCam Studio if you like management games or the humor and aesthetic of HuniePop. Download Huniecam Studio on Nutaku.
