STORY
You play as Glenn, a slave merchant who recently purchased the eldest daughter of the Quenelle Family. After the household lost their status, the Quenelles faded into obscurity. Claudia is your slave and hopes to earn her freedom by fighting in the Jerez Arena!
The writing in this game is fantastic. Realistic dialogue and deep world building make for an immersive experience. I felt like I was reading a fantasy novel, with descriptions so vivid and evocative, I fell in love with the characters.
On the negative side, the writer failed to balance the porn with the story. From unavoidable hardcore sex scenes to a generic harem ending, the writer refused to include a virgin route, and put the hentai ahead of the story.
This was especially sad, because a ton of the dialogue was top quality, and demonstrated a lot of talent. Like when the slave owner tells Claudia “You can’t control some things in this world, not everything can be protected” and she responded with “I already know that”. It was tense, dramatic, and really showed their relationship and the battle of egos.
There are five endings. Will you marry blonde Claudia or the dark elf Ellin? Similarly, will you keep them both as cum dumpsters or as wives? You can also give them up to sex orgies and have no relationship at all!
GAMEPLAY
Jerez’s Arena is a slave trainer and management game. There are also arena battles and dialogue choices! You’re trying to balance sexual experience with combat experience. Sex is vital to making money, but combat is vital to a happy ending.
If you focus on prostitution, you can spend your money on upgrading your base or buying stat boosters. If you focus on combat, you’ll win arena fights and make money through manual labor. While these two routes are nice, the game lacks sex stats and corruption levels.
There are six arena battles in total, making for a relatively brief experience. These battles do not have a practice mode, and are fought mainly via context clues. Some enemies require swift assaults while others require patience and skill. Simply choose an attack type to exploit their weakness.
The game takes about six hours to complete. Searching for all the scenes extends playtime to ten hours. There are many miscellaneous features that are easy to grasp. There’s an AP level that measures how much training a girl can do daily, status effects like STDs that need to be cured with an upgraded hospital.
Altogether the game is well designed and easy to learn, I just wish it had a final boss, or a climax of some kind.
GRAPHICS
The artwork is standard Japanese anime style. Claudia and Ellin are the two main ladies of the game, and they’re hot!
There are over 200 CGs in total, with 23 of them being unique. The variations showcase sweat, cum, different facial expressions, and more. In total there are 29 scenes, the majority of which focus on sexually training your slave. You rarely get to see your slaves fucking other guys.
Thanks to the Unity game engine, the user interface for this game is fantastic! From animated transitions to smooth menu toggles, the fluid and natural interface makes a great first impression when you start the game.
Character designs are not entirely uniform between scenes. For example, Claudia’s eyes are bigger and wider during dialogue when compared to sex scenes. And Ellin’s breasts seem to get noticeably larger during titfucks!
While the girls generally stay in their default outfits, some erotic scenes provide variation. For Claudia to prostitute herself well, she has to look her best! I only wish she could wear these outfits outside of sex scenes, and I wish Ellin had multiple outfits as well.
A fantastic aspect of the visuals is how many male characters are fully drawn and given a unique design. For example, Fencilidan the mage has a pronounced chin and sharp nose, making his appearance match his haughty personality. I love when men are fully illustrated, because it brings the world to life.
VOICE ACTING AND SOUND EFFECTS (SFX)
Jerez Arena has full voice acting for Claudia and Ellin.
The voices for both girls are too similar. Claudia is shown to be an inexperienced young girl while Ellin is a sultry and busty babe. It makes no sense for their voices to be identical, and I expected Ellin to have a more mature voice.
On the bright side, the voice acting during sex scenes is fantastic! A deepthroat blowjob is finished with tons of coughing and catching her breathe as the cock is pulled from her mouth. It felt so realistic and believable.
Sound effects are at their best during combat. From fireballs to sword slashes, the sound design is vivid, even movie-quality. As for sex, the focus on moaning takes attention away from sound effects. In particular, there was no slap sound when you smack a booty. The lack of sound effects in moments like that is very noticeable and disappointing.
MUSIC
There are a handful of music tracks in the game, all of which are original and very well made. Thematically, many of these songs seem a strange choice for this game. The music relies on drums, gongs, trumpets, and violins to create the vibe of an epic RPG adventure. And yet in reality, it’s a game about prostitution. This seems to be recognized by the musician in the track used constantly during serious and emotional scenes. That song relies on a simple guitar and a clarinet. Then the piano comes in with violins and flute. It echoes the melancholic nature of the true protagonist, the slave trader Glenn. This music is oddly beautiful, but I can’t shake the feeling that it’s a mismatch with the story. If this game had an adventure focus, these songs would fit perfectly.
HENTAI
There are 29 scenes, illustrated via 23 unique CGs. Hundreds of variation images keep the visuals fresh.
Sex positions range from doggystyle to cowgirl. The mandatory scene with bandits is a huge negative for me. Another negative is that you can only view a handful of prostitution sex scenes, while the rest are never shown.
Erotic dialogue is often odd and unfitting. Claudia talks about how she must do this to earn her freedom, but the ending shows her as a total cock whore. The reluctance to engage in depraved sexual attracts sure wore off quick once she could drop the mask! Ellin has sex without giving two fucks and constantly talks about leaving you for better cock. While the visuals are gorgeous, the writer struggled to make the dialogue sexy, in my view.
Many scenes can only be unlocked by being defeated in battle. Completing the game does not unlock all the scenes. This is a drag, because there are only six battles in the entire game and they cannot be repeated.
CONCLUDING WORDS
Jerez Arena is a well designed trainer game with some fun gladiator combat. The voice acting is good, the music is enjoyable, and the dialogue is extremely well written. But without a final boss or a single plot twist, it’s not the complete package. It’s a fantastic Japanese sex game, but left me wanting more.
