STORY
The game lacks a clear focus or genre beyond “go be a whore”. There’s an NTR vibe as others fuck your mom, but that’s not really emphasized. Instead, it’s more like “she’s so hot and having so much fun”. Similarly there’s the taboo vibe of looking at your mother sexually, but that’s not really emphasized. Instead it’s like, “my mother is okay being naked around me and I’m used to it”. There isn’t really an emphasis on anything.
Nagisa from the previous game makes an appearance here, but she may not be the same way you remember her. In Nagisa’s game, you could choose to cheat or stay loyal to your man. In this game, Nagisa is a cheating whore by default. Players who pursued the pure love route in the previous game are sure to feel disconnected to this whore version of Nagisa.
Almost all NPCs break the fourth wall by giving gameplay tips. While this happened to a limited extent in the previous game, this time it’s absurd! I can’t get immersed into the world, because every NPC operates like an info-dump doling out clues about game mechanics and plot progression. There’s barely anyone who behaves normally!
This game adds a crafting system that wasn’t available in previous titles. The problem is, the crafting is required for game progression. Normally I wouldn’t judge a new game based on the old one, but Erotic Doujin Life made Nagisa and her son primary characters in this game. It’s expected that you play the previous one.
The previous game was entirely open-world with an exploration focus. Sure there were battles, but you could honestly ignore them for most of the game. Here, combat and crafting are central to the experience and completely unavoidable. Your world map starts small and only expands as you conquer dungeons and craft new things. Frankly, it’s far more restrictive and linear than its predecessor, and not in a good way.
If there was a strong overall plot to tie together the linear progression, this game would be golden. Unfortunately, you’re just wandering around to new areas because there’s nothing else to do. You’re never given any motivation beyond “new doujin ideas” and “make money”. Altogether, this was the laziest writing the developer ever produced.
GAMEPLAY
The game was created in RPG Maker VX Ace. Move with the arrow keys. Press Shift to skip conversations or slow down your running speed.
An average playthrough will take 8 hours and have the characters reach level 50. Much of the game is focused on the standard RPG cycle of killing enemies to raise money to buy new equipment and items to kill even more foes. Compared to its predecessors, this is a much more typical RPG experience.
Running away from battle is penalized with losing money. Skills and outfits have to be purchased rather than found. The game starts abruptly with little explanation of the various mechanics such as selling one’s panties and urine. The lack of a tutorial is because you’re expected to have played the previous game in the series, starring Nagisa-mama.
Crafting is a new feature and central to progression. Another new feature is the “uterus strength” stat. Basically, you’ll need to be creampied multiple times in order for the egg to be fertilized. This can be sped up or slowed down via ovulation inducers or contraceptives. While these new features are nice, they can honestly feel overwhelming and unnecessary. The developer seems to think adding more features is automatically more fun, when clearly that’s not the case.
A perfect example of this game’s many flaws is the level-up fruit. This is an RPG game that offers free level-ups at random. This is because levels aren’t all that impactful overall. At the end of the day, it’s a suburban game. You can reach level 50 but it’s not like you’re a demigod, it all still feels out of place. These powerful enemies and dungeons don’t really match the world or NPCs outside of the battle zone. Altogether, the game lacks proper theming and cohesion. Features like the level-up fruit are just tossed in, one after the other. The author clearly lacked a set vision on what he wanted the game to be, outside of a laundry list of pointless features like uterine strength.
GRAPHICS
The anime art style is iconic to this developer. There are 30 scenes in total, but they’re so spaced out and distant from each other, it almost feels like there’s less. Another contributor to that feeling is how all the artworks look basically the same. Even Nagisa and Aina, the two female protagonists, look roughly identical outside of a few minor changes. Even with many CGs, if they feel the same, the game ends up feeling repetitive.
For example, Nagisa gets gangbanged in a park by a bunch of youths. The problem is, Nagisa never wears much to begin with, and already started the game as a whore. You can see her any time you want, so the visual appeal of her body begins to wear off. Other games like NekoPara change the standing art and outfits to keep things fresh, but this game does not. So what should have been a hot scene, ended up feeling predictable.
The most idiotic design choice made by this developer was the use of two standing artworks on either side of the screen during regular play. Even if you force Aina to leave the house alone at night, the standing art of her son remains. Even worse, the pause menu still says you have a full party of four. So while the dialogue says you’re alone, you never really feel that way. This ruins the concept of sneaking out to fuck complete strangers. Its less taboo when you have an entourage and standing arts cluttering the screen.
Icon encounters are used during dungeons rather than random encounters. The problem is, the enemies are represented simply as blobs. The developer had the time to add an internet café and other pointless locations, but he kept the enemies as vague blobs like the last game. It honestly feels like he cut corners for the sake of adding bulk content, rather than focusing on a smaller amount of high quality content.
VOICE ACTING AND SOUND EFFECTS (SFX)
Erotic Doujin Life has no voice acting.
Moaning sound effects are used during sex scenes, but these are stock assets. Similarly, the combat sound effects are basic thumps and strikes common to most RPG experiences. There is no improvement from the previous title.
MUSIC
There are 39 music tracks in total, and all of them feel completely out of place. From hardcore electric guitar to wistful flute sounds like a medieval mountain, the music in this game doesn’t match the suburban nature of the experience. Where the previous game was on an island, this game takes place a few steps from the main towns! Why is this epic battle track playing when I’m just walking through the sewers? Adding dramatic music does not suddenly make a game more enjoyable.
HENTAI
There are about 30 scenes in total. The NTR and taboo content in this game are unavoidable but pretty mild. The dicks in this game are small, except for the futa scene, where the dick was big and noticeable.
Your mom can get impregnated by over 10 partners, but she tries to keep it a secret. Not that it matters though, because pregnancy is treated like a sneeze. You can give birth on the spot and the child simply disappears from the game. This is a dramatic step down from the previous title where pregnancy had multiple effects on the characters and the world.
Basically, your mom and Nagisa-mama are best friends and total whores. Your mom Aina claims she is not one, but she fucks other guys pretty quickly. There is no corruption or hardcore dirty talk. It’s just middle-aged women whoring around. It’s not clear what the developer hoped to accomplish with these scenes. Fucking random people without setup or foreplay is basically the same as visiting a porn site. This game betrays everything that makes adult gaming different from porn videos.
CONCLUDING WORDS
Erotic Doujin Life is a sad tale of what happens when proper game design goes out the window. This game has more features than its predecessor, but none of them are engaging. It has more music, but none of it fits. It has a larger world, but feels less lively. Bigger is not always better! And this game is the proof of that.
