STORY

As a harem game, almost all plotlines revolve around acquiring and interacting with your new recruits. There are 21 waifus, each with six unique CG showing numerous saucy scenarios. However, there isn’t any room for an engaging plot. In the beginning, almost every mission gives a new girl. Estelle, Casco, Lynne, Nadie, the list goes on. There are so many waifus, it’s honestly hard to tell them apart by name alone.

Don’t let this game fool you with its stellar demo and opening. Although the beginning is magnificent, everything afterward is just picking up one waifu after the next with very little setup. It’s a little suspicious that this game sold over 30000 copies on DLSite, not to mention the near-perfect 4.7 stars score it has at the time of writing.

The pacing is horrendous. Outside of story mode, relationships develop way too quickly to the point that girls want to be impregnated 5 minutes after meeting you. Within story mode, you’ll often have to sit through a half-hour of dialogue justifying why you need more girls in your harem. None of it flows naturally.

You can tell this game was created by a disconnected team without a cohesive vision. There was one person working on the main story dialogue, while another person worked on the erotic scenes and their dialogue. The characters act completely differently depending on the scenario, and it is difficult to get immersed or focus.

There is no wider plotline or deeper story. Just recruit women into your new nation and use them to help you recruit even more women. Earn in-game currency via the national brothel, always in need of new hires. Don’t expect Shakespeare, this is a silly harem game through and through.

GAMEPLAY

Made in the Unity engine, this title is primarily played via mouse clicks. This is great for one-handed gaming, but also places this one firmly in the nukige category.

While story mode and sex scenes are conveyed in visual novel format, the core gameplay involves auto-attacking sprites on-screen. While photos of the combat look exciting, it’s actually no more engaging than a two-dollar mobile game.

Battles last under a minute. Progression is hyper-linear. There is no real challenge. Higher difficulties simply buff the enemy’s HP and ATK. And although you get currency, it has no real purpose besides buying upgrades that rarely feel impactful.

The brothel part is interesting but would have been better as a separate game on its own. As a new player, it’s not very intuitive. There are various rooms where you station girls or customers, and you have to balance the energy of the girls with the patience of the men waiting. It’s very slow starting out, and more tedious than engaging. Of course, by the time you hit endgame and have tons of harem girls, it’s more enjoyable. While the brothel sex scenes are hot, the actual brothel gameplay will shrivel up your hard-on faster than an old lady in a swimsuit catalog.

Although there are basic dating mechanics, affection raises far too quickly, leading to a lack of emotional investment and proper buildup. For example, you can convince a girl to cuckold you and have unprotected gangbang creampie sex with strangers within the first five minutes of unlocking free roam. The atrocious pacing kills any chance of this game being anything more than interactive porn.

GRAPHICS

There are over 125 art assets in total, but each of them is used multiple times in multiple scenarios. Although girls can start out as prostitutes and become your gf/wife, the scenes all use the same CGs, so it never feels like your relationship is tangibly developing.

With 21 different girls, it would take a talented artist to keep a consistent art style while making them all distinct. Unfortunately, this experience doesn’t have that. Rather, each girl is drawn in a different style (aside from the starter girls). Some art styles go together well, but others clash so much, it completely ruins immersion.

The animated battle gameplay with mini-sprites is enjoyable, but not exactly groundbreaking. Moreover, the visual novel format for dialogue is universal across most anime games. In terms of the user interface, the experience is far from memorable. In fact, the relationship advancement menu is just rectangular boxes with faces on them! When you have over 20 harem girls, it’s only natural that the level of detail diminishes. Quantity over quality.

If you can look past these flaws, the actual art assets are enjoyable and erotic. My favorite artworks are for girls with modest and normal-sized breasts since they are drawn in a realistic way where their bodies curve naturally. However, there are some characters with breasts so cartoonishly huge, it’s a parody.

VOICE ACTING AND SOUND EFFECTS (SFX)

How to Build a Magnificent Nation has no voice acting.

The sound effects are engaging at first, but it’s a 10+ hour game. After you’ve gone through the battle sounds for the first five hours, the next will be hard to endure. And with over 20 girls, each with numerous sex scenes, the repetitive sound effects can also be immersion-breaking. Overall, the sound effects are good.

MUSIC

The music is much like the sound effects. Whether it’s the wedding proposal tune or the tense song that plays during plot beats, the digitally synthesized horns and simple melodies are enjoyable and unique. Spread that out across ten hours and countless harem girls, and it becomes less impressive over time.

HENTAI

There are 20 waifus, each with 6-18 scenes depending on how you count them. There are always 6 core CGs like a handjob or vaginal sex, but the CGs are reused liberally. One scene could be a brothel handjob, the next could be a wife cuckolding handjob, but both with the same CG. If we’re being generous, this game has up to 360 unique scenes. If we count it by CG, it’s more accurate to say 120 unique visuals. Either way, the volume is high.

Each girl offers the standard lovey-dovey sex alongside something more dramatic. For example, you can convince a couple of girls to full-on cuckold you. Some girls simply do it for your sake, others are struck with fear and shame and confusion at your request. Other girls offer femdom or anal or other unique scenarios.

The strength of this game is also its greatest weakness. It offers unmatched variety and volume, but usually only one or two scenes for that particular fetish. For the blue-haired maid that cuckolds you, there is one scene where she is nonchalant and another where she enjoys cuckolding you. No buildup, no corruption, just two scenes. If you want a more in-depth NTR experience, you’ll have to play full-on NTR games, which we’ve reviewed plenty.

This might sound critical, but it actually doesn’t bother me at all. This is not trying to be your ultimate femdom experience or your ultimate double-penetration game. Rather, for twenty bucks, you get +100 scenes where you never know what to expect next. It has a level of novelty that is practically unmatched on the market today. For its sheer versatility, I have come back to enjoy these scenes countless times.
