STORY

Due to a major war happening far off at the border, all of the village men are gone. There are only elderly men, youngsters, and women. This means that as the sole male leader present, you have a major impact on the culture of this town.

The game is centered around four heroines. The warrior girl Rika, the shy archer Sheena, the busty MILF Helena, and the petite recluse Miko. Each girl has a large number of scenes both erotic and non-erotic, so you’ll have plenty of opportunity to dote over your favorite.

These villagers are too uneducated to handle the monster problem themselves. For example, you inform them that goblins do not hide in caves, and instead tend to build dens on flat plains in the same way humans do. This leads your party to patrol the local highway and eventually wipe out the goblin breeding grounds.

Instead of a large overall plot, the game is more focused on building bonds between your party as you explore all the areas around the village and hunt down monster strongholds. The Protagonist has an internal crisis regarding his scientific and lustful desires. Part of you knows that killing the goblins should be the priority. But as a scientist, you can’t help but want to experiment, and see for yourself what it would be like for a goblin to have sex with a human woman.

Regardless of whether you’re a pervert or not, the story reaches its climax when you find another scientist named Yato; he’s been experimenting on monsters hoping to create what would effectively amount to super soldiers. This research is incredibly dangerous…

The main plot of the story takes 7 hours to complete, but finding all sex scenes and unlocking all 16 endings will likely extend the playtime to 20 hours or more. While the game is well-detailed, it goes without saying that 16 endings are far too many. In my personal opinion, the developer should have put those man-hours into polishing the gameplay instead.

GAMEPLAY

This title was created in RPG Maker MZ. There are four difficulty modes, but it’s most balanced on medium. Easy mode decreases the level of grinding significantly, so if you just want sex, I recommend easy mode.

There is a daytime and a nighttime. During the day, you can focus on battles and leveling up, while during the night, you can focus on relationships and unlocking new scenes. Depending on your choices, the four heroines can have sex with other men in the village.

From top to bottom, this game is chock full of unique features. There’s the standard RPG combat, crafting system, impregnation mechanics, and so much more. My favorite part is praying at the graves and being awarded with powerful buffs.

As mentioned, there are four main heroines and five main types of monsters. Each monster type has its strengths and weaknesses, so be prepared! There are also status ailments and the possibility of laying eggs if one of the heroines gets pregnant.

Despite its many positive features, the game also has plenty of room for improvement. The relationship system is largely unclear, the material drop rate is crazy low, finding human-on-human sex events is difficult, and the final boss, Yato, was a major disappointment in terms of difficulty and stakes. Rather than 16 different endings, I would have much preferred four endings and much more focus on the details.

GRAPHICS

There are over 150 art assets here, each given numerous variations and adjustments depending on the scene. For example, if you give a girl aphrodisiacs, the scene will reflect that with lustful expressions and heavy blush. Alternatively, a girl defeated and taken by a monster will look frightened and sweaty.

The lack of background art for sex scenes is a major disappointment. Even worse is that many scenes feature the monsters only as transparent silhouettes, which detracts from the sense of danger and taboo. While most scenes are hot, there certainly are some duds in the mix.

The assets are largely generic and derived from the RPG Maker stocks library. There’s a grass zone, a cave zone, and all the other standard dungeons. The only real creativity comes out in erotic events. The sad thing is, most erotic events require losing in battle! This game would benefit greatly from the addition of hypnosis, or some other plot device to achieve eroticism without having to self-sabotage your party. As it stands now, the majority of the artwork is walled off from good players.

Character art is only given to the four main heroines. Even when you face the final boss, he’s just given generic sprite art and called the “Robed Man”. While I love the huge variety of CGs for the girls, it’s gotten to the point of detracting from the other characters.

However, these criticisms are ultimately unimportant in the broad scheme of things. From feet and faces to tits and hairstyles, this artist put care into creating some truly unique and beautiful visuals for each scene. I love that you can see the pussy spread open from taking a thick dick.

VOICE ACTING AND SOUND EFFECTS (SFX)

‘Is It Because I’m Weak’ has no voice acting.

The sound effects are used phenomenally throughout the experience. Whether you’re helping a babe birth an egg or directing your party to slash and strike, the sound design keeps the player immersed completely. Although most assets are from the stock library, they are used so strategically and fittingly that they never detract from the overall experience.

MUSIC

There are 69 tracks in total. The music is fantastic. The opening piano track perfectly captures the melancholy of a world at war where your party is just doing the best it can to succeed. During the daytime, the peaceful guitar music captures the beauty of this idyllic village and encourages the player to protect it. And in the evening, the harp strings perfectly capture the softer tone of a village settling in for the night. And when evening turns to night, the piano begins to play, transitioning into a silent rest.

HENTAI

Each girl has a wide variety of scenes in which they fuck monsters and humans. The 4 girls go through various states of undress and can become corrupted over time. They also ovulate, meaning impregnation is possible. And if you get tired of those four, there are other female villagers you can fuck after some time.

In the true ending, the entire village becomes corrupted into your breeding harem, but that’s easier said than done. Tracking down every scene is borderline impossible without a guide. And although impregnation is incredibly hot, once you do it a couple of times, the egg laying can get old, unless you’re a die-hard fetishist.

While marketed as a monster sex game, the use of a male protagonist adds themes of NTR and voyeurism. One moment you’re getting intimate with a girl, the next moment a goblin has impregnated her. It would be more appropriate to consider this game a free-use harem title.

While I adore the majority of scenes, I don’t feel they coalesce into a cohesive experience. In particular, I wish after a certain point of corruption, the girls would go out and get fucked by goblins voluntarily. Sadly, they always need you to direct them, which appeals to cucks, but isn’t very believable.

CONCLUDING WORDS

‘Is It Because I’m Weak’ is one of the best monster sex games I’ve ever played, also sporting thousands of downloads on DLSite. While the gameplay needs some polish, the sheer volume of content to explore and enjoy makes it a must-play experience for fans of erotic RPGs everywhere. There aren’t many games of this genre, hence this little indie title shines so brightly.
