STORY
Training Plan takes place in the year 2015 where the Rei that appears in the Evangelion anime is first created. This fan-game explores how she transformed from a mindless doll into a person capable of thought and feeling.
As the first game in the ‘Evangelion Training Plan’ series, this title has the largest amount of fan-service and niche references. Maya is a lesbian here. Ritsuko actually encourages her to grope the newly made Rei-clone.
The game is organized into eight chapters covering fan-made events from before and during the Evangelion series. The Ayanami training plan is a method of fabricating an “ego” in place of a “soul”. To do this, Rei is subjected to a variety of sexual encounters. A highlight scenario involves Rei discovering Shinji sniffing her underwear. Itโs a laugh out loud moment because itโs exactly the kind of thing Shinji would do.
The game abruptly ends after the 8th chapter. The narrator explicitly states “if you want more, buy Asuka Training Plan”. This message and the overall terrible translation should be taken as an indication of what to expect. While the game is enjoyable, it lacks a satisfying conclusion.
GAMEPLAY
Ayanami Training Plan is a visual novel created in its own specialized engine. The Options menu and other areas of gameplay are nearly incomprehensible. Had this game been made using Renpy or some other engine it wouldโve been a huge improvement.
Features from mainstream visual novels are not available here. You cannot customize dialogue skip speed. You canโt go back to your favorite dialogue points via the Backlog menu. Altogether, you should approach this game with an open mind.
GRAPHICS
No artist is listed on the game’s release page. Considering the huge variety of art styles used, itโs highly likely this game contains stolen art from Pixiv and other sources. Due to the gameโs age and the unoriginal artworks, there is no CG evolution. Dialogue will say “the penis was inserted”, but this isn’t shown onscreen. The text box will read “her face twisted in pleasure”, but with no visual change in artwork.
Backgrounds are a mixed bag. Sometimes there’s an orange blur, other times there are trees and streets with deep and rich detail. You never really know what you’re going to get. The lack of consistency hurts this game tremendously.
Often times the artist seems to be using masking rather than drawing things directly. In one example, Misato’s scar is drawn incorrectly, covering part of her breast as though it was stamped on. While the art is good enough to identify the characters, it lacks attention to detail.
VOICE ACTING AND SOUND EFFECTS (SFX)
Ayanami Training Plan has voice acting for all six main ladies. Unfortunately, voices do not always carry over to the other games in the series. Misato’s voice actress sounds different than in Misato Training Plan. Even if the same voice actress was used, they sound very different performance-wise.
As the first game in the series, there are multiple problems with the voice acting. Most prominently, players can audibly hear the pop filter whenever “P” sounds are spoken. It sounds like a “puff” of air. If simple Youtubers can avoid this problem, there’s no excuse for video game voice actresses.
Outside of the lackluster voice acting, the sound effects are stock assets commonly found on online libraries like the RPG Maker toolset. The wet sound used during sex is similar to water spells used in RPG games.
MUSIC
The soundtrack was likely passed down from previous titles by the developer. The music sounds like it would fit better in a Super Nintendo game than a visual novel. One track directly plagiarizes the melody from Dragon Quest 4‘s Town theme. It doesn’t even fit an Evangelion game. Overall, the soundtack is better than silence, but not impressive in its own right.
HENTAI
Ayanami Training Plan has 15 CGs spread across eight chapters. Since each chapter is a self-contained story, none of them build off the other. Don’t expect gradual corruption. Outside of an obligatory Misato scene, the main focus is on Ayanami. She spends most of her time with Gendo who loves to mess with her sexually. However, Gendo doesn’t actually keep her as a love slave. Rather, he loves teasing her and sending her out to be a whore.
In one scene, Gendo uses a remote-controlled vibrator to tease Rei. In another scene, he tells Rei to make an old man cum. Rei will either blow him or jump on his cock, depending on the playerโs decision. Sadly, all the men in this game cum after only a few lines of dialogue.
The most sadistic scene in this game involves Asuka plotting to have Rei humiliated and filmed by the boys in their class. Asuka is upset that Rei is Commander Ikari’s favorite. The lack of animation or image variants stops the scenes from achieving greatness. If youโre an Evangelion fan, the significant lack of Shinji will make the experience feel incomplete.
CONCLUDING WORDS
Ayanami Training Plan is a unique game in the Evangelion porn parody genre. The sex scenes are hot and the story is enjoyable, but the amateurish graphics and poor voice acting hold this title back from being a true classic.
