For years, the translation of Japanese eroge has been done by publishers, enthusiastic anime memesters, and machines. Now, a known software tool has received a new update that has massively improved the quality of machine translations. ‘MTool’, Made by AdventCirno (visit his Patreon), lets you translate any eroge you wish to play in 10 minutes, give or take.

The software is only 80mb in size. You can download MTool at https://trs.mtool.app/release.php?lang=en. The tool works on just about every version of RPG Maker and some visual novels. It automatically detects the game engine, but seems to struggle with any games made with the Unity engine.

You will still need to change your system locale to Japanese, for your machine to be able to run Japanese softwares. Read our guide how to do that switch.

Also read about Joiplay, a software that lets you play PC-only eroge on your phone!

MTOOL runs off an online server and needs constant internet connection. It does cache info, but the server sometimes needs to be backed up. During those times, the backup server is only available to paying Patrons.

According to Rastafoo, our domestic writer super star, the translations that the software produces are almost perfect. The tool has been in production for five years that we know of. Give it a try and let us know in the comments how your experience was!

If you enjoy this tool, please remember to support the developer and us for improving your erogaming hobby! Visit otakusexart.com/support to help us write more content like this, and try out all the saucy free services below:

Does this just translate RPGM games, or VNs as well?

You could try it yourself and tell the rest of the class.

There’s a lot more to it than that though. I’ve been discussing this with some localizers and while they like the idea, it still just offers a few already applicable MTL tools. Plus, it requires a constant online connection DRM as well as a limited amount of text per Patreon tier. So the program locks unless you pay more money.

Also, it is worth noting that the product does not read most visual novel engines. It’s more focused for practically any RPG Maker game. MTL might not be a problem there, but if you’re trying to read a story heavy classic that hasn’t released in the west yet like Extravaganza, this would be a bad way to do it.
