The most generic Japanese hentai game ever to receive a western localization, Princess Evangile is full of cute virgin schoolgirls who need a reliable masculine man to make them into women. It’s an emotionally evocative ride to raw unprotected intercourse.

STORY

Princess Evangile is about a boy named Masaya. He joins an all-girls Christian school, Vincennes. He’s not just there to study however. The school is contemplating a transition from an all-girls school into a mixed gender school.

Vincennes is divided into two groups; the White Lily Society who favor reform and gender integration. The Red Rose Society are opposed to reform and want the school to remain girls only. At the end of the year, the school hosts an election called the Grande Vote. The student body votes for the new student council president, and decide whether to pursue reforms or not.

The school has a cool French theme going on. Some students have French nicknames. For example, Rise’s title is “Soleli D’Ecole”, which means “sun of the school”. Ritsuko’s title is “Belle Epine”, which means “Beautiful Briar Rose”.

The story has a lot of ups and downs. You quickly learn to like Masaya, and root for him to succeed. His luck fluctuates a lot. Most things that happen to him are outside of his control. The story gets you so invested that you want to see him and his friends overcome all obstacles.

I played Ritsuko’s route, and enjoyed myself immensely. There’s a nice leisurely buildup with a ton of romantic moments. Masaya helps Ritsuko stand up to her mother. They take baby steps, and you’re waiting a good while for the payoff. However, the emotional climax at the end of the route is extremely satisfying, thanks to that enormous buildup. The scene where she finally stands up to her mother is beyond amazing. She tells her what she’s done to Masaya is unforgivable. The ending is satisfying and wraps up Ritsuko’s internal conflict of how everyone perceives her and who she wants to be.

CHARACTERS

The four main heroines of the game are Rise, Ritsuko, Chiho, and Ayaka.

Rise is an energetic and optimistic girl. She’s the leader of the White Lily Society. She always has Masaya’s back, no matter the situation. She wants the ideological battle between the associations to be fair and equal.

Ritsuko is the reserved, polite model student. She sticks to the rules. Despite being strictly against reforming the school, she never bears ill will towards Masaya. She is on outright friendly terms with the other members of the White Lily Society.

Chiho is the spunky childhood friend. She is very athletic and nice, but other girls look down on her.

Ayaka is the laid back prankster. She is regarded as a delinquent. Vincennes is a high-class school, and she’s just an uncultured memester. She is upfront about her feelings for Masaya.

Along with the four main girls, there’s a cast of lively side characters! There’s Konomi, Ruriko, Tamie, the confident student council president Marika and her vice president Mitsuki. Each of these characters gets good focus and development. They’re multidimensional and it’s interesting to learn their backstories that explain how their personalities were shaped by their past experiences. Even Masaya is a great protagonist with an interesting backstory. He’s a very typical visual novel male protagonist, but more fleshed out. You see certain points of the story from the perspectives of multiple characters. This gives them an extra layer of depth as you come to understand why they make the decisions they do.

GRAPHICS

The art is Japanese anime style. The colors are bright and vibrant. The character designs are nice, if your dick is conditioned to get hard from saucer-eyed anime babes. The characters naturally suffer from the same-face syndrome, but each has distinct details to set them apart. The girls have two separate outfits, the standard school uniform and their casual wear. While the school uniforms are uniform, the casual clothes are unique to the girls. For example, Chiho wears a short sleeved yellow shirt with a sleeveless black jacket over it – very fitting for her tomboyish personality! Meanwhile, Ruriko has a long elegant pink dress that looks beyond formal. Again, it matches her social status of a rich girl.

The various backgrounds are pleasing to look at. They’re very detailed and well colored, and there’s plenty of them. You can just smell the money here. I especially liked the bell tower background, which through creative trickery on the developers’ part, made the characters seem befittingly small in comparison.

SOUND EFFECTS AND VOICE ACTING (SFX)

The voice acting is superb. All the main characters and side characters’ actors do a great job. Only a few voices sound off, like Ruriko’s fiancee. Konomi’s voice deserves a special mention. Her delivery in the humorous scenes is hilarious. There’s a scene in chapter seven where she is reading from a porn novel in a monotone voice – it’s pure comedy gold.

The voice acting also gives dramatic scenes more impact. Near the end of Ritsuko’s route, you see her cry for the first time. The actress makes it a powerful, heart wrenching scene. You can hear the pure desperation in each breath she takes.

The sound effects are plentiful. There are standard sounds such as footsteps and the knocking on doors, but also rain and thunder. During sex scenes, you hear the girl’s moaning in one looped track. The audio design is awesome and makes the game feel more immersive as the sexy sounds won’t stop until you click the screen to move on.

MUSIC

The music in this game is fantastic. It’s got a classical theme going on that suits the premise. The best example of this is the track “Going Out on a Sunny Day” which uses trumpets, trombones, and tubas in an upbeat tempo to convey the everyday atmosphere of the school. Another great song which plays in all of the heartwarming scenes is the aptly named “Important Times”. It’s a simple track with just a guitar and piano, but the way the guitar is strummed is exceptional. It manages to hit all the right notes to perfectly convey the emotions of the characters after they’ve overcome a great struggle.

GAMEPLAY

Princess Evangile is a visual novel. Gameplay is limited to clicking the text box to advance the story. This game has very few branching choices, all very clear-cut. It’s a very linear reading experience overall.

There is a neat feature that lets you click the highlighted words to see what they mean. It’s mainly used for the French words that appear in the game. You should be careful with this feature, because the game can crash if you’re skipping through an entire chapter, and end up clicking a word at the wrong time. Just remember to save your progress often.

HENTAI

The hentai scenes are awesome faptastic masturbation material. There were six scenes in the route I played. Each of them was varied and interesting in its own way. They lasted fairly long and go over lots of different positions. The scenes also covered a decent number of fetishes. The content is vanilla variety, but very tasty regardless. The quality art and erotic text work in perfect harmony. The background voice goes the extra mile to make these sex scenes feel that much more arousing.

The best sex scene was the final one. After an entire week of separation, Masaya and Ritsuko can’t resist waiting any longer. They start fucking instantly they see each other again. What makes this scene truly special is that it’s first time Ritsuko is able to look into Masaya’s eyes during sex. Before this point they always fucked in a position where their eyes couldn’t meet. It’s a very emotional, very sexy scene.

CONCLUDING WORDS

Princess Evangile is a high-budget Japanese hentai visual novel that packs enough quality and content to be worth its hefty price tag. The lengthy storyline is engaging. Filled with a cast of likeable characters, a cast of cute voice actresses, the storytelling is supported by appealing anime art, fantastic music, and emotionally enticing sex.
