Free Cyberpunk RPG Review: Aeons Echo

Story

You are walking back home from your part-time job making the math in your head for the expenses of the upcoming weeks when suddenly you hear a scream for help. A girl is trapped by mechanical arms and is being dragged across a portal to another dimension (just like your light novels!).

We go inside and are met with her struggling against the machine’s arms that are tickling her – despite this she seems to be uncomfortable and exclaims she needs to finish the mission Zeus sent her off to do. We also learn her name is Biscuit and the girl who is with her is an android called Lilin. Lilin immediately recognizes us as a prophesied hero claiming we have the blood of Zeus in our veins and makes us her master by altering her code. She tells us the machines are trying to steal Biscuit’s energy called Corona trying to make her come in order to power themselves. Once all the Corona has been extracted, the victim becomes a pile of ashes and won’t be able to reincarnate (harsh!). So we need to save Biscuit ASAP before she comes too much too soon. Lilin tells us we need to activate another android called a “goddess”. In panic, we manage to wake up Sphinx and have her combat the machines trying to have all of Biscuit’s Corona to themselves. We meet Areka, a curvy blonde and Mamsa, a nerdy girl with black hair, glasses and a huge pair of tits. After the ruckus more machines come in and the squad takes care of it, showing us how the combat works. When more enemies surround our group, Lilin sacrifices herself for us.

After that intense introduction is over, we go back to the ruins to search for Lilin’s body and find out she’s pretty much still in one piece! She just needs some small repairs, so we head to the city of Thebes to get her fixed by a mechanic and get our new companion Sphinx checked out too. After the Lilin is restored and working like intended, with some memory loss. It’s now our job to teach her everything from zero since she will only follow our commands, with us being a son of Zeus and all that jazz.

Talking about Zeus, we get to meet the guy. Turns out he’s a Dragon Quest blob. He tells us once we can go back home once we collect the 88 fragments of divine power. And so the adventure begins…

Gameplay

Aeons Echo is an auto battler gacha. Which means you will be spending most of your time battling, investing the resources you get from those battles in upgrading your units and summoning better ones in order to advance. The combat is simple enough and, as usual, you mostly depend on getting lucky with summons or strategizing if you plan to do your playthrough without spending any money.

Outside from the usual combat and summoning, there’s also an option to have a harem of different apostles. Lilin is our first, but we can unlock more as the story progresses. We can then proceed to date and raise the affection of each of the apostles by getting to know them more, giving them gifts and taking them out for dates. We can also touch them for a currency called feathers, which will excite them. The game is pretty stingy with the feathers at first so keep this in mind when using them – you might want to unlock the girl you like best first before taking on this task. All these actions unlock CGs that will be saved to each of the different characters’ galleries.

Music

Music works fine for the game it is. Personally none of the tracks stuck with me but the music itself isn’t a problem, it mostly goes unnoticed in the background. It sounds great and it’s professionally done, it simply doesn’t invade the gameplay.

Voice Acting and SFX

The game’s cutscenes are fully voice acted (in Japanese). Every girl has a distinct voice and even speech patterns. There’s a lot of attention put into this aspect. Considering how immense the cast is, this is admirable. This includes the porn, too. Consistently strong and helps make the characters feel memorable and believable. For sex, you can expect some jerking, cumming and squelching sounds during sex.

The SFX used in the UI are pleasant and don’t become overwhelming so quickly. It feels gratifying to listen to the sounds of your units upgrades.

Hentai

As you advance the story you’ll unlock CGs of the girls. We see the usual, blowjobs, vaginal sex and some romance sprinkled throughout. Most of them will need you to help them cum in order to deal with situations related to their Corona: which means we have a lot of work to do. We can also work on developing our relationships with our apostles. We will start with Lilian as our only apostle but we can unlock more as the game progresses. These are the bachelorettes of the dating aspect: the apostles are the ones we can raise our affection with, go on dates and so on. We can also do a touching minigame for which like most interactions with them, we need to grind resources for. We can always fuck some hot girls we come across in the main plotline and there’s plenty of content to go around that doesn’t involve apostles, so don’t worry about it. You won’t be grinding like crazy to see some action.

 Concluding Thoughts

As usual, gachas are meant to be played with patience or a stack of bills in hand. Whatever your choice may be, Aeons Echo is a solid entry in the series. The art looks good, the gameplay is fun and it’s free to download. With over 10 million players worldwide (according to the developers) there’s a lot of content updates, special events and even a big playerbase you can exchange your thoughts with via the in-game chat or the official Discord.
