Wings of Roldea, a hentai RPG developed by Waterspoon. Released August 11, 2018. Download on Dlsite for $17.00. For Windows PC. Partial voice acting. Censored genitals. Available in English, Chinese, and Japanese.

You are the last surviving victim of the Romenia massacre. Your entire village was raided by bandits, its women were kidnapped, and you are now alone. Explore the world, grow in power, then work hard to take back Romenia!

Before trying this game, please read our guide how to download DLSite games.

STORY

Your default name is Alma, and you are the sole survivor of the Romenia massacre. But why was your home destroyed? How did they block you from using magic? And where is your beloved sensei who was left behind?

The story of this game has a fantastic start with a super enjoyable tutorial zone, before the experience falls flat. After you unlock free roaming, you are given little direction and no overarching plot to follow. You wander the world aimlessly.

A fantastic story is waiting for you, but its hidden behind a mountain of dungeons. You’ll spend so much time clearing random dungeons, you’ll start to forget key plot points and characters. This is made worse by the fact that this game has no quest log. If dialogue indicates where to go, you better have that memorized! At some points I was given multiple quests and forced to pull out pen and paper to keep track.

The big reveal of the story is that you are a vessel for a magic spirit. At first you’re a normal girl, but after receiving blessings from four wild spirits, you can finally embody the power of Roldea and end the game. Actually, there are six endings, but they’re all very tedious to complete, so don’t worry about it.

GAMEPLAY

The game was created with Wolf RPG Editor, a fantastic engine with great versatility. You move with arrow keys. Press spacebar to interact with objects and people. Press Shift to use your sword. Press A to use your spell. Press S to sprint. Hold X to skip dialogue.

The game difficulty can be changed at any time from the pause menu, it will not affect your ending. After completing the game you can start a ‘new game plus’ with all your current stats. Sex scenes are very spaced out, so don’t expect a ton of lewd content.

Wings of Roldea has a great combat system in place that is woefully mismanaged. For example, rather than typical level-ups, you need to raise specific skills. Use magic to raise the magic skill – when you sleep, it will level up. Unfortunately after the first hour of gameplay, the level-ups become few and far between, making the game feel unsatisfying.

The game’s genre is action RPG. All combat happens in real time, it’s not turn-based. This means that a skilled player can defeat enemies many levels above him. I don’t recommend you risk it though, because you cannot save game until you complete the dungeon.

A lack of linear progression makes this game a chore to play. You’ll always have three or more active quests, but without a quest log, you’ll forget them and wonder how to progress. Many players are forced to use a walkthrough, simply because there is too much information dropped on you at once.

There is over 20 hours of content in this game, but at least half of it could be cut with no negative effect on the overall product. Just taking a glance at the world map will show you, this game is bloated. Bigger is not always better!

GRAPHICS

The art style places heavy emphasis on textures and lighting. There’s over 100 unique clothing items, designed to be very realistic. With some characters, it looks jarring how ruffled and real the clothing is compared to the flat anime faces.

Characters blink and breathe naturally unless you disable that in the options. Almost all sex scenes are fully animated with tons of movement as the penis thrusts in and out. One of my only gripes is that the player character has a boring, expressionless face.

In total there are 37 base CGs. Five are fullscreen still images, another ten are cut-in images, while everything else is an animation. The character sprite itself is dynamic, changing his appearance depending on your outfits and location. In cities there are even realistic shadows depending on where you are relative to lamp-posts. Dynamic shadows in an RPG Maker game, what a time to be alive!

There are three cities and numerous other villages and towns to explore. Every region adds a bunch to the game. The warrior’s guild, the knight barracks, the brothels, the locations are all absolutely wonderful. Every new area feels alive!

Best of all, NPCs react to your clothing choices. Although clothing will not affect stats, it affects your exposure level. If you come into town with ripped clothes and exposed breasts, you better believe people will comment!

SOUND EFFECTS AND VOICE ACTING (SFX)

Wings of Roldea has partial voice acting for the main character. Moaning and vague grunts are commonplace during sex and battles. It’s hardly noticeable, but it makes the character feel more alive.

The sound effects are varied and fitting. Spells sound vastly different depending on their element. The only problem is that most sex scenes drag on, turning the sound effects that play in those scenes into an annoyance. And considering how many times you’ll slash your sword while grinding for level-ups, that can also get repetitive with time. Better pacing would have improved the sound design greatly.

MUSIC

Although there are only a handful of music tracks, they are all completely unique and beautiful melodies. This fresh new style of RPG piano music was a pleasure to listen to. This developer shows that you don’t need an orchestra to deliver epic RPG music. In fact, most of the tracks in this game are variants of the Wings of Roldea title theme, redone with different instruments.

If you’re exploring a dungeon or the town, you may recognize the background music as the title theme, simply remastered with bass guitar and other instruments. This pulls on your heart strings, and evokes great feelings for the game. The moment you hear the theme, all your memories come rushing back. I loved it.

HENTAI

There are 37 base CGs spread across 20 hentai scenes. A lot of these CGs are cut-in images or still images that only appear sparingly, so don’t let the numbers fool you. Playing this game for yourself will reveal how repetitive these animations can be.

For example, there’s a CG for Alma bent over in doggystyle position. Sometimes it’s a slime behind her, other times it’s a person. The only big change is the sex partner while Alma looks exactly the same.

Whether it’s forced sex, sleeping sex, or something else entirely, your 20 hours of play are going to spent taking dick in doggystyle and missionary. And with a total and complete lack of erotic dialogue, why play the game at all? You could just google “hentai” and have the same experience. This game needed dialogue!

The sexual content is flawed but it has positives too. You got scenes with the “stuck in a wall” fetish, you work in a brothel, dance as a stripper, and even proposition townsfolk into having one night stands. This game has a ton of great ideas, but a lack of personality and writing behind it makes it feel like a fetish checklist rather than a cohesive game.

Repetitive animations, repetitive sex positions, and a complete lack of erotic dialogue make this promising hentai game a sorely disappointing experience on the pornographic front. At least the scenes are fully animated!

CONCLUDING WORDS

Wings of Roldea is a beautiful game with great music and tons of content to explore. The voice acting is good, while the audio design suffers. The game world is absolutely enormous, which is both good and bad. The lack of a quest log is a huge issue in a game this complex, and forces you to use pen and paper to keep track of things. The combat is fun and real-time and the sex scenes are beautifully animated.

I recommend this game to hentai fappers across the web. Download Wings of Roldea. If you enjoyed this game but want something that’s paced much better, check out our review for Delia’s War.

I am not sure if its important tho may I ask why the pregnancy mechanic in the game was not discussed ? As well as the tentacle scenes, because there are quite a good number of them and they are not included in the Gallery / Memory Sphere.

There is practically no pregnancy system. Its just laying eggs, with no consequences or attention whatsoever. Tentacle stuff as well wasn’t worth mentioning.

WHEN we write of impregnation and pregnancy mechanics, we want to give details details details! But in this game, its just laying eggs, not even lasting in any way.

With so many other features to speak about, these “pregnancy” things don’t matter. Now a game like Petite Goddess Emily, that’s one that does pregnancy right! You should check out the review for it here on site! <3
