STORY

The game follows the exploits of Aiyana and Yaya. They are two members of a trio of cute girls who grew up together. One day their village was attacked and they became separated from Koko. Years later, they are old enough to leave the village. Yaya and Aiyana pick up the trail and journey to reunite with their lost friend.

The game spends a lot of time setting up Aiyana and Yaya’s goal, sometimes at the cost of the writing quality. The basic rule “show, don’t tell” is forgotten many times.

The game is close to 40000 words but the playtime flies by. Shortly after leaving the village, our duo girls meet a witch in the forest named Maya. She ropes them into helping her perform a locator spell in exchange for doing various lewd chores. The spell will take a few days to complete, during which time we get to know Maya and see a begrudging relationship build between the three girls.

After the spell has been performed, we get a nice cuddle scene before Maya decides to adventure by the girls’ side to find Koko in the next game. Depending how invested you are, this is either a nifty cliffhanger or a total emotional rug-pull.

SOUND EFFECTS AND VOICE ACTING (SFX)

Forest Girls has no voice acting.

Sound effects are limited. Depending on the scene, you can hear shrubs, knocking, or fires burning. The menu also features limited audio cues.

MUSIC

I love the music in Forest Girls. It’s relaxing and wholesome. The game uses original instruments such as the violin, flute and piano. Certain songs also feature the guitar. All the songs are expertly placed to suit the mood of every situation.

The game has a good variety of music, but it doesn’t always feel that way. You get used to the songs very quickly. Some songs have a fast pace that caters to action scenes.

GAMEPLAY

Forest Girls is a visual novel game. You click the screen to advance the story. There is a gallery for viewing unlocked CGs. The game has basic functionality for “Auto”-play and for skipping already-read text.

I ran into a lot of problems saving. Whenever I tried, the game would break and kick me out immediately. This bug forced me to play the game in one sitting.

GRAPHICS

Forest Girls has rich color scheme for both backgrounds and character art. Colors are bright and vibrant and evoke wholesome feelings while playing.

Background art uses less detail but is still pretty striking. During flashback scenes backdrops are displayed in black and white to make it stand out further.

Sprites in the game have limited poses, but plenty of expressions and clothes. Characters also move around and fidget onscreen which makes them feel more lifelike. I genuinely enjoyed the character designs. Aiyana and Mika unfortunately suffer from same face syndrome. Other than that aspect, I thought their designs cool. Both of them have tribal tattoos on their faces and arms. Their breasts sometimes appear larger in CGs.

Camera work is great. Winged Cloud now implements panning shots where we get a full introduction of the environment. This helps make the world look and feel bigger.

HENTAI

Forest Girls follows Winged Cloud’s playbook of putting cute girls in lewd positions instead of going all-out with in-and-out. The game has a lot of sexy CGs with a couple of unusual camera angles that make the artwork pop.

Aiyana and Mika fall into each other’s arms and stare longingly into the other’s eyes. In another scene Maia eats grapefruit in the nude. She looks sexy as fuck while grapefruit juice pours down her body. One scene depicts your waifu tied up all sexy-like while bathed in white chocolate. Putting goo on plush anime girls is this company’s forté, they do it in almost every game.

Aiyana and Yaya both crash and land in the water, allowing us to see their plump bodies wet. The highlight event of the game for me was when the gang is cuddled up together and groping Aiyana while Yaya and Maia French kiss and press their boobs together in an explosively erotic yuri moment.

CONCLUDING WORDS

Forest Girls is a cute yuri romp that knows when to focus on its characters and when to focus on their sexy bodies. The characters are very likable and the CGs beautiful. If you’re a fan of Winged Cloud’s style, I can highly recommend this title. Downlod Forest Girls on Nutaku!!
